Alex Rašner Named Player of the Week
By Radoslav Vavřina, Lead Writer, The Czech List
First week of this season of the Under-20 Extraliga is over and so it’s time for the Czech List to name the Player of the Week for the first time ever. Alex Rašner is the one honored as he had just an amazing week for a defenseman, scoring 3 goals and adding 3 assists in the 4 opening games. Also, two of his goals were scored on powerplay and one of the 3 goals was a game-winner. Right now he is at number five in points scored out of all players of the league and also the top-scoring defenseman while having a positive +/- rating at +6.
The 18-year-old native of Jeseník is yet another great product of the strong 1996 year, he has already played in 16 pro games for Olomouc and he also appeared at the Under-18 World Juniors last April in Finland, scoring 4 points in 7 games. Nobody picked him up at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, but if he doesn’t slow down this season, somebody might just do that next June in South Florida.
Also coming off a strong week is Rašner’s teammate from Olomouc Under-20 team, Aleš Jergl whose 4 goals and 7 assists combine for 11 points over the first four outings. Among goalies, René Svoboda from Vítkovice and Karel Vejmelka from Pardubice had most success in the opening rounds.
